Once considered a political prison, Fernando de Noronha is nowadays known as one of the most breathtaking islands in the world. I also find it to be the best-kept secret in Brazil.

This remote island located in a heavenly Archipelago is 340km off the Northeast coast of Brazil. Although it’s not the easiest place to get to, the long journey will be well worth it, trust me.

The island is covered with exotic forest and features volcanic rock formations, turquoise waters and a rare marine wildlife. The Brazilian environmental Association brilliantly limits the number of visitors to 700 per day to ensure that the island can remain an unspoiled gem and not have it turn in to a overcrowded theme park.
